Why do floods like this happen?

One of my favourite journalists,George Monbiot, a contributor to the Guardian newspaper and respected author has just posted a fascinating article on why agricultural policies in the UK are contributing to increased flood events close to rivers.  The Common Agriculture Policy as it relates to farm payments and the operating practices of water authorities all contribute to more water than necessary being discharged into rivers rather than being absorbed by the ground. Any thoughts?

Flooding at Glan Tywi Uchaf

Over the past few months on at least two occasions flood water has been coming off the field behind Glan Tywi Uchaf into the rear of some houses. Sue Abbott who lives at No1 has had flood water in her house and her driveway has been wrecked by the water cascading down off the hill side. These photos show the water coming down the hill and cascading into the back yard. Sue and her neighbour Jim Greer have contacted The Environment department in Carmarthen and the Community Council to get help. Watch this space!

Contact the Ferryside Village Forum site if you have a story or pictures to share about flooding at Glan Tywi or Glan Tywi Uchaf, Ferryside.
