Coed Panteg Woodland- Just up the road from Ferryside on the Carmarthen Road will be running a week end course about charcoal making on Saturday and Sunday the 2nd and 3rd May. Day one, using an oil drum to produce small quantities of charcoal and loading and firing up a large kiln to make big quantities.Barbecue in the evening. Day 2, sieving and bagging the charcoal and guidance on working in a small woodland including coppicing good practice. Course leader Martin Samphire. COED PANTEG WOODLAND CO-OP.
Anyone interested in volunteering at the Coed Panteg woodland just outside Ferryside please contact Mike Evans 0790 431 3156 or email mikee@canolnet.plus.com. Our next work day will be on Sunday the 17th August from 10 o’clock to about 4 p.m
We will be making brash piles from felled wood, splitting and stacking timber after the coppicing sessions earlier this year. We will also be preparing wood for another charcoal burn.
We will have tea and cakes but you may want to bring a packed lunch. We also have charcoal if you fancy a BBQ. Please wear suitable clothing including strong footwear and work gloves. We have the tools. Work as much as you want and enjoy a day in the woods.
Charcoal making Course- Ferryside. 21st and 22nd June
This exciting charcoal making course is taking place in Coed Panteg woodlands just outside Ferryside on the week end the 21st and 22nd of June.
Woodland Coop Ltd are running the two day “hands on” course about making small quantities of top grade charcoal using coppiced wood in steel drum kilns. They will also use a professional 6′ kiln to demonstrate how larger quantities of charcoal can be produced.
Over the course of the two days they hope to show you the coppiced woodland, appreciate the woodland ecology , view newly planted woods and see the various interesting projects ongoing at Coed Panteg

Open day at Coed Panteg Woodland Co-op
Coed Panteg Woodland Co-op are holding their annual open day this Sunday the 25th August between 2 and 5 pm. Come and see what’s happening down in the woods and meet up with coop members and friends. A lot of work has been carried out with the help of Team 157 of the Prince’s Trust including the creation of paths, pond and Hugel Mound growing beds. We will have refreshments and a barbecue, do bring along something to share if you like. Children very welcome.
Please try to arrange car share to reach the woodland as parking is limited. All very welcome – Hope to see you there!
