Letter of Thanks.

We have heard that  Ferryside toilets have been reprieved from closure for the time being. The latest news we have is that the long term future of the toilets is still being discussed, by the County Council.

We congratulate the residents of Ferryside who signed our petition, expressing their  concerns over threatened closure. Public toilets are an absolute necessity along the coastal path.

We also thank our local County Councillor, Mair Stephens, our local MP, Jonathan Edwards and  Assembly Member, Rhodri Glyn Thomas for their support in our battle to keep our toilets open. We also wish to thank St Ishmael community council and their chair Cllr Mike Evans for their continuing efforts.

It’s  ecouraging to know  that we can rely upon  our elected representatives to maintain their support on this very important local issue. We ardently hope that the County council will continue to maintain the toilets and decide to keep them open for good.

Your’s sincerely,

Ferryside Village Forum,

Subject: Community Bunkhouse opening soon in Llandovery.

Hi Everyone,

Here’s a press release from WEEC which includes The Level Crossing project which is community interest company that I started working with just over a year ago, and is finally coming to fruition. Gill Wright, one of our Trustees is a director of TLC which is on schedule to open in May.

The former Rugby Club building in Llandovery has received various grants through RDP and Collaborative Communities to be converted into a community owned bunkhouse accommodation and bistro with the profits being used for community benefit. The location is directly opposite the Heart of Wales line train station in Llandovery, which will be an asset for this project who’s profits will be going back to the community. If you get a chance, please promote it as the directors have worked very hard as volunteers to get to this stage.

There will be 7 jobs created, one of which. the live in bar manager is being advertised now on their website- the applications close tomorrow.

FSEG March 4th meeting

FSEG Meeting March 4th

Following positive advice from County council officers, a broad consensus emerged in favour of demolishing the current buildings on the education centre site before proceeding with redevelopment to fit the objectives of the group. Quotes are currently being sought from Gwendraeth Recycling and other contractors on demolition costs. The current medical centre will be consulted on how best to accommodate this option with minimum disruption to their business.

It was agreed to send the chair and/or secretary to an upcoming seminar on social enterprises to be run by the County council. Meanwhile, committee members will attend site visit shortly at a number of other local Social Enterprise projects.

Priorities for the new build will be further discussed and decided upon in a future meeting, but broadly the establishment of a central Hall ( suitable for sports, community and school use) a new medical centre and small residential hostel were favoured.

On the sports side, basketball, badminton and indoor bowls, plus a small gym were considered desirable along with facilitating the use of the current open air sports facilities for five aside football etc.

On the medical and well being side, the potential for developing respite care and chiropody will be explored with the medical centre.

Being close to the costal path the centre was thought to be well placed for walkers, bird watchers and cyclists.

It was felt that the centre should have a large and extensive car park for potential users. Next meeting is on Monday April 8th, 7pm in the White Lion.
