Public Conveniences in Ferryside not safe yet!
Just learnt that my previous post saying that the Ferryside Public Conveniences are safe was a tad premature. County have now clarified. A letter is to be sent to clerks of Community Councils setting out the exact position.
I now understand (as Delme had said in his recent post) that the decision on public conveniences in tourist areas is to be deferred.Whilst it is good news that the public conveniences in the five tourist areas identified will not be closed on 31 March 2013, the period of time during which they will be retained and maintained by CCC remains uncertain.Previously it had been said that the conveniences would be safe for the foreseeable future! Apologies for raising false hope.
Hope everyone keeps up the pressure on our representatives.
Public Conveniences in Ferryside saved
News just received from the Community Councils ( Llanstephan, St Ishmael’s, Cenarth, Pendine, Pembrey & Burry Port and Kidwelly) Action Committee;
According to an informal letter sent to the action committee by a council official, I understand that the public conveniences in tourist areas will be retained and maintained by the County Council for the foreseeable future, having been treated differently due to recognition of the core role they play in the tourism economy. These facilities are located in Llansteffan, Pendine, Cenarth, Ferryside and Burry Port. A letter to this effect will be mailed to community council clerks by the end of the week.
Well done to all those who petitioned and lobbied county councillors. Well done and thank you to Delme Bowen for his work in organising and collecting the over 300+ signature petition and also thank you to our Community Councillors for opposing the closure of the facilities in Ferryside and being active members of the Action Commitee. Thanks also to our AMs and MPs who forgot about party differences and worked together on our behalf.

Decision on public toilets deferred by Council Exec.
Carmarthen county council’s executive committee have deferred a decision on funding public toilets. Lets keep fighting for our villages and common sense on this issue.

Your active support is needed now! Please use these statements to lobby your County Councillor this weekend. His/her support is urgently needed in the County Council Revenue Budget 2013/14 meeting on Tuesday 26 February.
1. Partnership working & accountability: We want to work in partnership with the County Council to rationalise public convenience responsibilities in a way that is politically and financially feasible – in line with the spirit embodied within the ‘Carmarthenshire Community Strategy: Thinking Together, Planning Together and Doing Together 2004-2020.’
2. Strategic examination: We want a firm commitment that the County Council will undertake a strategic examination of the public convenience stock over the coming months, in place of the current blanket quick-fix approach aimed solely at budget-cutting. This strategic examination must be based on in-depth research, financial feasibility studies, SWOT analyses and meaningful consultations with communities, tourist organisations and small businesses.
3. In consequence the public conveniences expenditure allocation in the County Council Revenue Budget 2013-2014 must remain the same as that allocated in 2012-2013.
