One of my favourite journalists,George Monbiot, a contributor to the Guardian newspaper and respected author has just posted a fascinating article on why agricultural policies in the UK are contributing to increased flood events close to rivers. The Common Agriculture Policy as it relates to farm payments and the operating practices of water authorities all contribute to more water than necessary being discharged into rivers rather than being absorbed by the ground. Any thoughts?
